Project details

Kier has been appointed under the Cambridgeshire County Council Design & Build Contractor Framework to design and construct a new build extension and undertake refurbishment works at Duxford Church of England Community Primary School.

The key purpose of the project is to replace the Key Stage 1 accommodation which was unfortunately lost during a fire in July 2020. The scope encompasses the provision of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 teaching accommodation, a standalone pre-school and space within the main school building to accommodate an out of hours school facility. There are also refurbishment and re-planning works proposed for the existing main school building entrance to layout and security.

"We are very excited about the rebuild and the new classrooms and facilities that it will provide, including dedicated spaces for the DX Club and Duxford Pre-School. Following the sadness and devastation of the fire in July 2020, the whole school community is looking forward to starting a new chapter in the history of Duxford Church of England Community Primary School."

Supporting the community

Kier is committed to working with local, specialist teams to ensure support of the communities in which we work.  Kier encourage all sub-contractors to use local labour from the local community to work on the project.

Kier will keep local businesses and shops in the local community up to date with the latest information on the project’s progress. Kier site operatives will help support the local community and dress accordingly when entering shops.

The site will be registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which is an independently audited assessment of a project’s consideration for the local community, its operatives and the environment. As part of our commitment, we do what we can to minimise disruption from the project. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

"My team and I are extremely excited at the prospect of commencing works replacing the valued facilities the school lost in the fire. We will continuously collaborate and work with the school on this important journey constructing these new state of the art educational facilities. We will be operating within a live school environment throughout so will look to reduce our impact wherever possible and with safety at the heart of everything we do, I would ask that children are reminded that construction sites can be dangerous and that they are discouraged from entering the site."
