The Professional Services Alliance brings together the skills of three companies consisting of Kier Design Solutions, Tony Gee and RPS, A Tetra Tech Company. Formed in 2019, the alliance creates an enhanced delivery model for key highways projects, using integrated design and build and early contractor involvement. The alliance is now also ISO 44001 certified – the international standard for Collaborative Business Relationships, placing it in good standing to offer the best outcomes for our clients.

Complimentary capabilities
Each of the alliance partners, Kier Design Solutions (KDS), RPS, A Tetra Tech Company, and Tony Gee - have complimentary capabilities and resources which are shared to enable more effective collaboration. Each partner contributes positively, problem solves, constructively challenges and shares best practice to achieve solutions that deliver value for money. Crucially, the team adopts a ‘single company’ mentality to all its work – drawing on each other’s strengths but ensuring mutual accountability.
"Pursuing the certification has shown the alliance’s dedication and commitment to adopting collaboration, openness and flexibility as core values. They are to be congratulated for their focus on this in order to drive forward new ways of working, push innovation and support the objectives set out by the UK Government in The Construction Playbook for delivering excellent public works."

ISO Certification
The PSA is now ISO 44001 certified, the international standard for Collaborative Business Relationships. The certification measures behaviours, organisational culture, and management processes, and recognises the best-in-class collaboration demonstrated by the PSA following an in-depth two-stage audit process undertaken by the BSI (British Standards Institution.)
Perfect portfolio
The PSA has already delivered successful outcomes and benefits across many highways projects and the principles of the PSA model may now be applied to other Kier Transportation projects. Engaging in face-to-face ‘lessons learned’ workshops helps us to overcome challenges, with clients and other stakeholders a key part of that process. As a result, our stakeholders feel invested and valued through the design process, providing the groundwork for delivery with real value.
On the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool project we avoided a delay to the project posed by the diversion of a critical 130-year-old, fragile water pipeline. Through collaboration between the PSA, specialist subcontractors and National Highways SES team we developed an alternative and innovative design solution comprising a glass reinforced plastic culvert lining solution, allowing existing culverts to be retained.
On the A417 Missing Link Project we developed a bespoke mainline weir drainage solution for use within the central reserve whilst ensuring concrete road restraint could be provided. Throughout this process we engaged with stakeholders to proactively discuss feedback related to refined architectural finishes and sustainable drainage solutions, an essential part of this ‘landscape led’ project located within the Cotswolds AONB.
At the M6 Lune Gorge bridges, we implemented a bridge replacement solution for the bridges south of the project to save the need for further work to strengthen the hard shoulder.
