Kier has been appointed by the Department for Education to deliver the redevelopment of Northolt High School in the London Borough of Ealing. The vital redevelopment will bring new facilities to Ealing, both for teachers and students and for local people.

The existing school buildings on site will be demolished to make space for the new facility which will accommodate the existing 900 secondary places, 200 sixth form places and 30 additional resource provision (ARP) places for student with special educational needs.

The new school will be designed and constructed over two phases, using Kier’s K-School design platform, and will be net zero carbon in its operation, in line with the DfE’s latest output specification requirements. It will consist of thermally efficient buildings, incorporating the use of ground source heat pump technology, and green roofs with photovoltaic panels.

New facilities will also be made available for community use, including outdoor sport pitches, a three court multi-use games area (MUGA); long jump and outdoor gym area, amphitheatre with covered canopy, cinema, activity studio and fitness rooms.

The redevelopment forms part of the Government’s School Rebuilding Programme (SRP) scheme which focuses on the rebuilding and refurbishment of schools and sixth forms across England.

On Thursday, 18 July, Northolt High School, the Department for Education and Kier hosted a groundbreaking event to celebrate the construction works on site.

"We are delighted that we have been appointed by the Department for Education to design and construct the new Northolt High School. This project will transform the school into a state-of-the-art facility which will have a positive impact on the community for years to come.

We look forward to using our wealth of experience in building first-class educational facilities to deliver this redevelopment, which will enable the school to expand its additional resource provision and sport facilities, ensuring the school has an inclusive academic and pastoral environment."

David Rowsell managing director, Kier Construction

"The opportunities which will be created through the launch of a completely new school are immeasurable. In particular, the addition of enhanced specialist curriculum spaces for Art and Design, Film Studies, Music Technology and Sport will not only enhance our educational offer for our students but also enable us to fully realise our STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths).

This new building also creates lots of opportunities for our local community, all of whom will benefit from access to brand new sport and arts facilities. We are truly looking forward to placing our school at the heart of our community as well as building strong partnerships with other schools, universities and businesses to further enhance the offer to current and prospective students and staff."
