Kier has been appointed by Southern Water Services to their £3.1bn Strategic Development Partnership Framework for its Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8). The appointment is for an initial term of seven years, with the option to extend the agreement for an additional five years.
Projects expected to be awarded under the framework includes increases in capacity at water supply and wastewater treatment sites, alongside works to improve water safety, quality, recycling and resilience.
Kier will provide strategic planning, design, construction management services and expertise on two Lots of the framework, working across both water and wastewater projects, alongside other framework partners.
Southern Water Services is responsible for providing, maintaining and operating water supply and distribution services covering the counties of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, including the Isle of Wight. Across the region, Southern Water Services supplies drinking water to approximately 2.5m households and treats and recycles wastewater from more than 4.7m households.
This framework is part of Southern Water Services’ business plan 2025-30, which aims to enhance the health and wellbeing of its communities, protect and improve the environment and help to sustain the local economy.
The work will be delivered by Kier’s Water business unit, which is part of the Group’s Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks division.

This is the latest appointment for Kier’s water business and further strengthens the company’s position as a leading provider of design, build, maintenance and repair services to the water sector. Other recent appointments include the Anglian Water Integrated Maintenance, Repair and Developer Services alliance and a partnership with United Utilities in the North West to support their biggest ever environmental programme.
