Marylebone Square, Kier’s mixed-use development for Concord London, has been named as Housing Project of the Year at this year’s Building Awards.

This nine-storey building of high-end and affordable residential apartments, community facilities, restaurants and retail space was a complex engineering project and the first new mixed-use city block to be developed in W1 in half a century. Constructed on a constrained site in the heart of Marylebone, and largely delivered through the challenges of Covid-19, the project was delivered to the highest quality through our supply chain partners including our in-house mechanical and electrical team, KME.

The works included 50,000m3 of excavation for a 3-storey basement, as well as the construction of two bespoke external façades and a large section of the ground floor built on plunge columns, utilising ‘top-down’ construction techniques. Also included is a five-storey central atrium with bridge access to individual apartments from central floating walkways – fully manufactured offsite, and a glass rain canopy.

This is the second recent accolade for Marylebone Square, coming after it was named Residential Project of the Year at the British Construction Industry Awards – with both awards recognising the huge amount of skill and technical expertise which went into its delivery. More information about Marylebone Square can be found here.

Another Kier project, the Ministry of Justice Digital Twin Pathfinder at HMP Five Wells, was also recognised at the Building Awards, being highly commended in the Digital Excellence Category. This project has created a digital twin at a Five Wells houseblock which allows operators to use real time data to monitor and assess the building’s performance, significantly improving its operational efficiency.

"We’re incredibly proud to see the fantastic work of our Marylebone Square team recognised by the Building Awards. This project has taken a huge amount of skill and dedication to deliver, and will provide new homes and amenities which will have a lasting positive impact on the local community. For that to be rewarded with this accolade is no less than the team deserve."
