Sustainability in construction
Kier partnered with Community Wood Recycling, diverting 48 tonnes of timber from landfill and providing employment for disadvantaged individuals. The project saved 24 tonnes of CO2 emissions while supporting the creation of community benches using recycled wood. This initiative demonstrates Kier’s commitment to environmental and social sustainability.
"Our partnership with Kier helps build a circular economy by reusing suitable timber and creating jobs for marginalised people."
Richard Mehmed, Managing Director, Community Wood Recycling

Supporting local communities
By hiring 28 full-time employees from within 30 miles of the site, Kier created critical job opportunities for local residents. These roles helped enhance local skills while supporting families in the community. Additionally, Kier awarded contracts to local SMEs to ensure that the project’s benefits were shared with the local economy.
Training future generations
From July 2023 to July 2024, Kier delivered 245 hours of apprenticeships at Mogden, providing young people with essential skills and pathways into the construction industry. The team also hosted STEM workshops at local schools, encouraging students to explore careers in construction and engineering.
Kier’s partnership with Trussell
Kier’s ongoing partnership with Trussell ensures regular foodbank donations at Mogden. The team also actively participated in volunteering and fundraising efforts, contributing 26 hours to help relocate a foodbank and raising £1,621 through community fundraising events, including the Dragon Boat Race. These efforts support food security for vulnerable community members while encouraging employees to engage in charitable work.
