Project details

Kier are delivering a new purpose-built school that will provide specialist education for 246 children and young people aged 5-19 years old who have a range of additional learning needs, including moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).

The new school includes the provision for primary, secondary and sixth form spaces. The new two-storey building measuring 4,952m2 in size will accommodate 28 classrooms, a creative art & ICT block, a library, a main hall with onsite catering and 11 specialist classrooms.

The classrooms include construction, vocational food room and creative arts rooms as well as associated staff and support spaces. Each classroom will also have access to a shared group/calm room to offer an environment where pupils can relax.

The external spaces include a multi-use games area (MUGA) plus an area for animal care, habitat, and a private multi-purpose courtyard which features a performance area as well as a staff zone. The animal care provision, currently housed at the existing school, will be relocated to the new courtyard. The landscape design of this build has been developed to enhance biodiversity.

The development will allow the provision of modern purpose-built spaces, which enables Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT) to deliver a best practice educational experience in an environment where the students can flourish and reach their full potential.
